Loveday Road Street Party (for Loveday Road Residents Only)
Completed Project
The street party is planned to be held on the top end of Loveday Road on the 6th June 2015 on ‘The Big Lunch’ day. This will be late morning onwards event allowing as many residents on the street to attend.
The aim is to strengthen community spirit and promote neighbourliness by providing an opportunity for the newly established Neighbourhood Watch (NW) members to meet up and get to know each other, in a family friendly environment. As many people as possible will be involved with the arrangements and set up. Everyone will be asked to contribute a dish, teenagers will help co-ordinate games for younger children table tennis competitions, egg & spoon races, relay races, football, goal shooting competition, etc. Food will be sourced locally. The remaining members of the street who have not yet been approached to join the NW will also be invited to the street party and encouraged to join the NW.
It is hoped that the Fire Brigade would agree to visiting with a fire engine (for the children) and information on fire safety (eg smoke alarms) for the adults. Similarly, our community police team would be invited to share security information, best kind of locks, etc.
Lastly, we hope that the Allotment Society (responsible for Radbourne Walk, (privately owned public right of way between Loveday Road and allotments) would be represented and have a platform to illustrate what they and their volunteers have already achieved in the alleyway, what else they hope to achieve and, in keeping with the Eden Project ‘Big Lunch’ ……. encourage children to plant seeds for the street.
Although this is a one day event it is anticipated that the event will have a long lasting impact on the community with the ultimate goal to make the area a safer, better place to live, play and walk.
