A play street turns a residential street, like Goldsmith Avenue, in to a “safe place to play outside for local children of all ages.”
The monthly play streets on Goldsmith Avenue have been such a success, attracting between 15 – 40 children, along with their parents/carers. Can you picture that? The street filled with the sound of play and laughter!
It’s not just for fun. We all know the importance of active play. After months of being cooped up inside, a play street is a perfect opportunity for children to actively play outside.
Sonya Matthews, organiser, discovered that it doesn’t just benefit the children – play streets have a very positive impact in the local community.
“Local residents pull together to make sure we have what we need for the event to take place, people chat to local people who they know well and those who they have never met.”
With a small helping hand from the Council who provide everything you need to get started, setting up a play street has never been easier.
